So, I was listening to this audiobook from Brian Tracy (I would blog about it as I finish listening to it later) and there is an interesting lecture on speed-reading.
What it basically means, is that ones mind can actually perceive information a lot faster but one tends to repeat the words in ones mind so that slows the reading speed dramatically. If you would be able to try not to repeat the words in your mind and just comprehend them, it could have a huge impact on the reading speed, according to Tracy.
Here is a couple of tips he gives on how to practice speed-reading:
- Choose a book you wanna read. A magazine and a newspaper will do as well.
- Start reading each line a couple words (two or three) from the begininning.
- Finish reading the sentence two or three words from the end
- Put your hand and move it across the page in a sweeping motion. Run your hand down the page in an increasing speed and follow your fingertips along with the text until you are spending only a few seconds per page. You won’t actually be able to see information but as you follow along you will notice how you will begin getting more and more words from every page. When you switch back to your normal reading, you should be reading a lot faster than you usually do. Do it for 20 minutes (it is critical not to do less even thought it might seem silly at first).
I am still not sure if something like that would work out but I am willing to try it. When I have time. And will. I will hit up with the details if I manage to do it eventually.
