Second Day - I’m beginning to hate it

posted by admin in February 5th, 2008
in Movies, Week of Posts

Remember remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

(From V for Vendetta)

And why the hell did I start doing this? Anyway. I’ll just share some of the movies you should could see. In fact, you shouldn’t anything. You either can or may want to or may not want.

I watched V for Vendetta recently. The first few minutes of the movie were inspiring, the rest, I don’t think s worth watching. In any case, talking movies, here are a few I liked and, I thought, could share.

First, watch Lord of War. A few years ago, when I watched it, I really liked it. Then, The Pursuit of Happyness is quite a new one and it’s inspiring. Also, I have done a few movie reviews on this blog too, you could check them out too.  Another good one, off the top of my head, is Requiem For A Dream (watched this quite a while ago). Don’t really remember many more at the moment.

It’s kind of hard to create posts for me. It’s just like I have to work to figure what to write and it doesn’t come naturally yet at all. I noticed like writing but doing it constantly just doesn’t come good. That’s why I wouldn’t think blogging is a good thing for me. I wonder if it would change during the course of the week. Maybe I’ll get down to even more chit-chatting in the future posts. Maybe not. I guess we’ll see.

Finally, check this one out - it’s about the thing I was talking to you before. Try username: test and password: test. Cool, init? And works simpler than Google Notes. I coded it in, perhaps, an hour or so. Does anyone need this service, though? Some time ago I was thinking of releasing it to the public (slightly improved) but then I hadn’t even had it coded and I was lazy anyway.

P.S. Another quote from my driving instructor:

You mustn’t drive on the straight white line in the middle of the road. Be it that straight line, or be it green grass. I did drive on the grass once. That was when I was running from the cops, though…

Getting the best education ever, huh.

A Week of Posts

posted by admin in February 4th, 2008
in Week of Posts   Tags: lucid dreaming

Yesterday I was thinking that I post to my blog quite rear and that it would perhaps be interesting to see if I could post more. Without thinking too much, for one week, I came up with this plan: I’m going to post at least one post a day! Sometimes one post a day would seem easy but other times I don’t have much to say. It would be even tougher, though, if I had also added making those posts constructive. I haven’t.But I’ll try to make these constructive, nonetheless.

What are we going to talk about first? Oh, lucid dreaming. Sure, let’s pull this out of the shelve. Why? Well, I’m sorta trying for lucid dreams again. How? I’m journaling my dreams for the past few days and I plan to continue it for some time (this week at least, lol).

So, what is lucid dreaming? Dreaming and knowing it! Simple. The answer to what’s in it for one is also simple: dream control. How to have lucid dreams? First step, for all techniques, begin journaling your dreams after you wake up! Then, there are a couple of techniques. I suggest you listen to this short  podcast that I found quite some time ago (I have started not really liking some of what Steve Pavlina is saying but that podcast is a good motivator anyway - although the technique mentioned did not really work for me). Also, there are techniques like WILD and DILD. You’ll have to google msn yahoo search this!

I had my last lucid dream about a month and a half ago and I want to catch up a bit. Generally, I am not that good at this (rephrasing: my perception of me is that I am not good at this but I don’t know of a way to change that perception so I’m stuck) but I could sometimes pull a lucid dream here and there. Anyway, perhaps, I’ll let you know if I get lucid dreams this week (to make this a double-experiment).

These posts are not about that, however. I’ll try to hit you up with different areas from different fields of information during this week. If not, I’ll at least post something! That should make me find out how fun it is to be posting every day…

Getting back at you

posted by admin in January 19th, 2008
in Uncategorized

I was doing some stuff today so I didn’t do all of it. Enough excuses, I was lazy. In any case, I said I would be getting back at you, so I am.

Concerning my last post, I found a product. I then found some ways I could promote it. Then I set up a page with a redirect to the affiliate page and programmed a counter to gather some small statistics about the visits. When the counter gets 200 uniques, I should have made a sale. Let’s see if that will be the case.

Tomorrow is the big promotion today. I’ll add more to the post in order not to expand too much.

UPDATE: I’m getting really little traffic. Getting those 200 is way harder than I thought. I guess I’ll have to leave some time for the traffic to gather and extend this for, perhaps, tomorrow. Gotta do more. In any case, traffic ain’t comming that easy.

(More to be covered when the project is finished.)

Let’s Talk Internet Marketing Finally

posted by admin in January 18th, 2008
in Internet Marketing   Tags: basics, Internet Marketing

I’ll cancel everything else out untill I find out something. In fact, I’ll do that tomorrow. First, let me explain why.

First of all, I am kinda interested in Internet Marketing, so… No, that’s not where the story should begin. Once, I downloaded a podcast called Rush Hour. The guest telling his tips was Jeremy Schoemaker, and, shouldn’t you know who he is, just google it. This post is not about that. Rather, this story told by Jeremy on that podcast, I found fascinating… now they have transcripts of the podcasts, so, check this one out. I’ll quote the important part for you:

Jeremy: I know that we’re running out of time, but can we talk more social media stuff because I have something really cool. I’m sure a lot of your listeners might (like)… <…> Alright. I did this thing about this guy <…> who <…> paid a company like $600 to make a video for him <…> He got over three million views. When I last talked to him, he told me he converted at 1%. <…> Let’s do that math real quick, right. So, if he converts that 1%, he got 3.2 million page views, he’s made over $1.2 million dollars in three months.

Wow! That’s 1.2 freaking million US dollars. Right? Wrong…

Today I remembered this story and I googled this guy again and let’s see his part of the story. Again, some quotes:

This was the first time I really ever created a product before or tried anything a bit quirky, and I scored slight success managing to conquer the number 1 spot in the Google Video top ranked videos, scoring over 3 million views. <…> Talking numbers I probably spent $1,300 on the site, sold around 70 none-affiliate copies at $37 taking in a few thousand dollars. <…> I decided it was a good time to sell and let him go to a new home. <…> I settled on $3,000 <…>. In all I made around $4,500-$5,000.

Wait. We started playing law-ball… But, seriously, we’re talking about a difference of 240 times or 24 thousand percent (that’s 24,000%). To talk about hype… It seems, that guy has even made up his mind about all of this eventually.

So, we reach a conclusion that this was way over-hyped. But how would that matter? It boils down to talking about the plausibility of doing this IM thing succesfully at all. If such a succesful project with an okay copy, an affiliate system and 3 million people watching the video that is actually bringing traffic to the page, he could only pull in 5 grand (including the sale of the site), come on, how plausible is actually doing this with success? Getting to the point where we will be needing Myth Busters to confirm it.

Now, I don’t want it to sound like as if I was whinning about it. I’m not or that’s not my intention anyway. I just managed to notice a small problem here. So, I’m willing to play a myth buster and actually try this out. No, not trying out that product and that niche, of course. Just trying this out.

Pick a product. Send real traffic from everywhere possible untill a sale is made. Knowing the traffic was real people and pretty-much targeted, count around a) how many visits were needed to make that sale b) how much time and effort did it take to get those visits. Ed Dale said it’s about 200 visits if the copy is bad. Let’s find out.

That’s why I’m cancelling everything out. Starting tomorrow morning (mid-day, actually, granted I like to sleep). I’m going to get back at you tomorrow evening. :)

Are We Having Fun Yet?

posted by admin in January 13th, 2008
in Internet Marketing, Life

The Internet at my room broke so I’m now sitting in a shopping center (centre, for those of you British-English fans…) or should I call it a shopping mall with my laptop on my lap and writing this. It’s funny because even being Internet-deprived normally and being here for business-matters, I couldn’t resist wasting some time “just browsing”. Whatever. I now have a plan, I have chosen a niche, haven’t done any niche research whatsoever and I now have registered a domain name. I am on the verge of setting up my mySQL settings for the new site now. Then, only design is left. I’m quite bad at design but I’ll be getting some examples to work on so that I’d have a working copy of the page to just upload to the server early tomorrow and begin phrase 2. Phase 2 is a lot of work but it’s okay since I’m going for my dream (I coined that phrase from someone). Well, one of my dreams, sorta. What else what else? I’m going to make it this time so I have to start thinking about other stuff too. There is not THAT much stuff going on but there will soon be other stuff to discuss. Currently, I feel like I should be keeping my focus on one thing which I will. So, okay, as for now, I have to do some other steps for the design preparation needed. As the Japanese say, ganbarimasu!

Les résolutions

posted by admin in December 31st, 2007
in Life   Tags: resolution, theatre, tie

I finally learned how to tie a tie. I remember I had previously tried before but I was missing some part of the process and couldn’t tie it properly. Now, I decided, I would do it untill I finally succeed… I decided I would learn to tie one before the New Year. Took me just an hour!..  haha… and now I can do it using this Double Windsor knot or a single Windsor knot… It all came down easily when I stopped learning the first one and finally figured out how to do the latter first. By all means, these guys that make those videos have it all figured out and they just tie their ties quickly not thinking about how it might be hard to pick up for the people watching. Here is a good lesson - always think about your audience and break it so that they (and not you) can understand it.

I also was in the theatre today. I don’t visit theatres. Now I did and it was fun. Makes you wonder about all those things in life you never do that could be so great to do. I’m living on the idea that I will do them later. But when is later? For most people, there is no later. I guess you have to put later forward in life…

I am glad because I got around to do some of the things I was putting off in the last few days. Here is another lesson - taking action makes you happy. For the moment, at least. Finally, taking action enliberates. There is no excuse to not taking action and yet I have wasted so much time. Whatever, as says Anthony Robbins, $past != $future (except this is put in a programmer kinda way… I am NOT a programmer, bah).

Resolutions, yeah. Now I am going to pull out my journal and write my New Year resolution. Someone said that New Year resolutions are just vane commerical stuff but now I am thinking of them as of a rather good chance to put your goals into places. The difference between most resolutions and mine, though, is that I am planning to follow through (well, that, and the goals differ too, I guess).  I am going to have a good hour to think of everything and write it down.

I am not gonna wish happy New Year. Everybody does that. Enough cheesy stuff. And also, wishes are empty. Actions count.

My first mailing list

posted by admin in December 24th, 2007
in Internet Marketing

Here is the funny story… I created this website, programmed my self-made list and offered a free product to be offered in the future.

Then, I did nothing, except this:

Adwords spendings account example: spent $2.35 for a campaign with 26 clicks.

And then I got this:

Mailing List Example Database Taken

So, I got two real users to enter their e-mail waiting for the free report and one of them has even activated his account.

Considering it’s a free report, even though my copy is far from fantastic, it’s converting more than poorly. But that’s not it. The funny part is…

I don’t even plan on making that report!

That’s right. That’s a niche I am not passionate about…

I don’t really know what to do. I guess I’ll be doing this, though…

I’ll be optimizing the page, adding a few articles and doing some more promotion (preferably so that I would not have to pay for it monetarily). If I can get… hmm, let’s say 30 active real subscribers, I’ll reconsider this whole thing. Sounds like a plan, right?

In the meantime, I’ll be searching for a thing to do something I have been putting off for almost half a year now. Also, let’s move onto the other things. As they say, do everything till something sticks.

Achieving the personal power

posted by admin in December 22nd, 2007
in Development

Yesterday I completed the Personal Power course by Anthony Robbins. I am kind of not very much into doing courses like that (further in the text: seminars) but I got a personal recommendation.

Don’t get me wrong: sometimes seminars are cool. It’s just that often they are packed with useless stuff. Useless general stuff. Mainly, stuff that is unapplicable. “In order to be effective in life, you have to make effective decissions” - you know what I mean. What’s more, they often take people off taking action. Learning things has also taken me off taking action and in continuously does. Whatever, life’s great. :)

What I see now is that I have taken a pre-conception about seminars. But it suits me well. I take stuff and try to learn but I don’t take it too seriously untill it proves itself to be so. I also try to be eclectic and don’t take all courses in a row. Whatever it is, I like this plan of action so there is no need to change that conception yet.

Let’s now mention a few things that I really liked about the Anthony Robbins course. What’s more, I can actually see some usability in it. Of the top of my head:

  • Managing your state - I find it that it’s still difficult to control my state but while doing the course I was getting in the state pretty often so if even that could make me feel good, I’d have to conclude it’s possible. :)
  • Anchoring - very interesting. Does it work? What’s more, is it controlable? I have tried it and it kinda shows some results but I don’t know if it’s the anchor working or me laughing about finding it fun to be tapping my elbow (or whatever). If you don’t know about anchoring - go find out.
  • Enpowering questions - wow, that’s a totally new concept. I knew there was something wrong about positive thinking. The hard part is getting yourself to ask those questions often. But I’d be guessing it’s still worth a try.
  • Food - this 3/4 water-rich foods diet is interesting but I dunno, I have heard so many versions about food. Some diets say you should be eating practically only vegetables and others say you’ll die if you do that. I’m a bit lost. I’ve been trying to do this for 10 days, though, but, oh, it’s taugh.
  • Breathing - 2 seconds in, 8 seconds hold, 4 seconds out (or at least change the seconds but keep the ratio) - interesting, but I often find myself without air. I have heard that if you do hold your breath and you are moving at least a bit, your organs actually run out of air and it backfires. I’m not sure, again, so many versions…

Next, there were some other good things but I can’t remember them now. Setting goals are very common and not unheard of. Following through is harder… Pain/pleasure linking does not give immediate results for me or I’m doing something wrong. What, it’s not supposed to be giving immediate results? When should I be expecting results then? Next year? Next month? Next solar eclipse? There must be a way to do it now.

Also, I have listened to the extra of the course. Some ideas were interesting. Some Indian guy saying something along the lines of:

We are not physical machines that have learnt how to think, we are thoughts that have figured out how to take shape of a physical machine.

Wow, that really made me think for a second. Sounds kind of un-argumented, though.

I still have a couple of tasks to finish from that course and I’ll be doing them untill the New Year. If I don’t post in the next few days… Happy Christmas, everybody!
